Pistachios in the News!


Ah, the lazy days of summer. Unfortunately, for many, there is not much truth to that adage. A summertime calendar can quickly fill up with activities, festivals and special events that pack in the fun, while opening up opportunities to pack on the pounds. While we look forward to many of these events each year, they do not always include the healthiest snacking and dining options. Here are some tips to help keep healthy eating top of mind even on the busiest of fun, summer days.

Outta Sight, Outta Mind: Put unhealthy options on higher shelves in your pantry to get them out of your eye line (or just toss them out). Instead, place healthy options where you can easily see them. That way, when you’re hungry and looking to grab a quick snack, the healthy choice will be the one staring you in the face.

Super Snack Station: Measure and pre-pack snacks, such as about 49 in-shell pistachios (one serving) or pre-cut veggies, in plastic baggies to have at the ready for you and your family. When you are on the go and need a quick snack for the car or at the office, you will have healthy, ready-made options.

Small Servings: Put smaller plates and taller, thinner glassware in the front of your kitchen cupboards so that you use those first. You’ll still see a full plate or glass, but you’ll be more likely to consume smaller portions.

Stable Staples: Fill your pantry with healthy shelf-stable products, such as nuts (like pistachios), whole grain crackers, and dried fruit. You won’t have to worry about snacks spoiling too soon, and you’ll have a variety of choices for all your summer activities, such as baseball games, hikes and sports practices.
